“Jones,” said Howell, scowling at me across the tiny yard of my apartment building. “I hope you have a good reason for me being here.”
“The best, sir,” I said. “Mrs. Applebaum, in 18D needs a chair out of her section of the storage shed- the basement is all maintenance, and each apartment is assigned a section- and since our building manager is never here, she asked me to get it, and-”
“Short version, Jones,” he snapped.
I winced. “There’s a hornet’s nest, sir.”
He sighed. “Come on, then.”
I grinned, and trailed after him. “On your six, sir.”
