New Day
By the time we finished our paperwork, the sun was starting to shine on our shared desks.
“Finished!” I said, putting the last paper form on the towering stack in my ‘out box’.
Howell offered me one of his not-quite smiles, and scooped the whole pile into an inter-office envelope. “Good work, Jones.”
“Can you say that again, sir? I want to record it.”
“Not a chance. Get your hat.”
“Why?” I asked, even as I grabbed a cap to shade me from the sun.
“It’s a brand new day, Jones. And breakfast is on me.”
I grinned. “Yes, sir.”
