Janet knew it made the most sense for her to take Cassandra in. As much as Sam wanted to, she was needed on SG-1, and a doctor could provide a much more stable home life than a front-line scientist/soldier.
She hadn’t thought she’d ever have children, but Janet thought she was up to it. Especially with one that could already walk and talk and be enrolled in school.
But she wasn’t prepared, when Cassandra flew into her arms after a nightmare, for the sudden bone-deep feeling that this alien girl was hers, and Janet hugged her back just as tightly.
