Summary: Today, Sam hated being sick.
Magnetic Message
Today, Sam hated being sick.
Not that she had particularly enjoyed being sick yesterday, but at least then she'd had an awkwardly-attentive Jack to bring her tea and fluff her pillows and let her watch the Discovery Channel on TV.
But today, Jack had a very important meeting scheduled with very important Air Force officers, one that he simply could not cancel, postpone or in any way avoid, and reluctantly, he'd let Sam convince him that she could be left alone for one day.
He'd tried to sneak out of bed that morning without waking her, but she'd only been half-asleep anyway. Still, she appreciated his thoughtfulness and, wrapped in a cocoon of still-warm blankets, quite enjoyed watching him get dressed.
Jack made sure she had everything he thought she could possibly need- water, cough medicine, extra blanket, TV remote- but he'd hesitated at the foot of their bed, clearly debating with himself if he should just forget about his meeting and stay home with her anyway.
The very idea that Jack was willing to blow off a whole group of five-star generals just for her made Sam feel well enough to send him on his way.
She woke several hours later, feeling too warm, and went downstairs to get a cold drink. Sam poured herself some orange juice ("Plenty of Vitamin C, Carter," Jack had said) and took another dose of medicine.
It wasn't until she went to put the juice carton away that she saw the message Jack had left for her.
Sam's second thought was to marvel once again at how incredibly lucky she was to have Jack O'Neill in her life.
Her first thought, of course, had been to wonder where Jack had found the magnetic letters to spell 'I love Sam' on the refrigerator door.

N.B. Inspired by something real: I work at the library, where our children's librarian has magnetic letters on her desk. One day, somebody spelled 'I love Sam'- it just struck me as such a Jack thing to do, hence this :)
