sga uniform guide

May 07, 2006 21:42

Lately there have been some quirks in fic that have really thrown me out of them. Silly little uniform things that I thought I'd clear up in a post.

With pictures and comments: SGA On Base and Offworld. I'm covering the uniform and most of the gear if I have the information, which has mostly been gathered by my fellow members at SG-C.net.

Image heavy. This is probably not 100% complete, but will be as screen accurate as possible. Gear and uniforms will differ from actual military standards. Comments and corrections welcome.

Command staff/Security/Off-World Uniforms

The typical Atlantis on-base/off world uniform. Variations are worn by command staff, security, and science personnel.

Jackets & Shirts

Seemingly standard issue, but there are many variations. Weir and Teyla seem to be the only ones with red panels, which are probably meant for command staff. Security/military is black, science is blue, medical is yellow. There is a green paneled jacket, but it's not known what department this is for. There are also several jacket base colors: light/steel grey, dark grey/charcoal, and khaki. The steel grey jacket seems to only be paired with the black panels or the red panels. Khaki has been seen with the blue and yellow panels. I believe the dark grey/charcoal jacket has been seen with the green, blue, and yellow panels.

Edit: There are two jacket base colors: grey and khaki. At this point, I'm going to say that all color panels have been seen on the grey jacket, and all but red have been seen on the khaki jackets.

Throughout season one (images above from 1.18), McKay can be seen wearing a darker jacket and pants. It's possible this was a fabric issue as I went back to research it and couldn't find an image of McKay in a dark uniform in season two, except for "Intruder," but that was possibly a lighting issue. So. Corrected until I get a chance to look further.

Edit: lt_stargate6 confirms there is an Atlantis Strike Unit uniform. He has a gallery here with some caps from "Coup D'Etat". Right now the configuration seems to be black with grey panels.

Atlantis mission patch is worn on the right shoulder; nation flag on the left. These are generally removed from the jacket when off world.

Speculative: There is probably a velcro pocket at the base of the panel where a flap matching the jacket is stored. This piece can be zippered over the colored panels (which is why we see a zippered edge on the panels). I can't remember the exact episode, but I remember Beckett's panels being covered on an off-world mission. It was either "Duet" or "Instinct." "Runner."

Edit: In the Paul McGillion profile on the season two DVDs, Paul does a lot of the interview in the grey jacket with the panels zipped up.

The shirts seem to vary widely from a black t-shirt to a zip-up microfleece to base layer shirts. So, you know, your guess is as good as mine there.

Pants

On the left are standard issue BDU pants, which Sheppard and probably other military personnel wear. Sheppard seems to switch between the BDU pants and the pants in the middle/on the right. The exact model/type is unknown, but it's probably some sort of Fastpack pant and they are worn in the grey or the khaki.

BDU pant features: made of poly-cotton rip-stop. Button-fly. Reinforced knee and seat. Adjustable side waist straps. Adjustable drawstring at leg cuff (but it doesn't seem like they're worn "properly" drawn on SGA). Two front pockets, two rear pockets with button flap and two large cargo pockets on leg.

Fastpack pant features: made of Canyon cloth, chamois-lined. Zip-fly. 11-inch ankle zip and cinch cuff closure. Reinforced seat. Adjustable front waist strap. Two front pockets, two rear pockets with velcro closure. Front security pocket and knife snap hook.

Footwear

All crew wear hiking boots of some kind. Sheppard's boots are most likely the Lowa Arko GTX model, while others (including Teyla and Weir) have worn the Merrill Eagle III.

Any crew coming off the Daedelus seem to be wearing standard issue SGC Garrison BDUs (I think) and Magnum boots. Flight suit specifications can be found here.

The strike team in "Coup D'Etat," with the exception of McKay and Sheppard, wore what seems like a black Special Ops version of the Atlantis uniform and instead of sneakers wore 8-inch Magnum Response boots.

USMC

I don't really feel the need to go too in-depth here. The Marines at the end of season 1 and during season 2 ("The Siege" and "Duet") have been seen wearing Urban Digital MARPAT BDUs. It all seems like standard issue, so more information on Marine uniforms can be found here.

Field Gear

Basic gear that team members wear off world. Individuals may carry additional items (ie, Rodney's laptop that velcros to his back).

Tactical Vest

Model used is the Blackhawk Omega Tactical Vest. Though SG-C notes there is a modification to the D-rings on the shoulder, you can see from the photos that they are unchanged from the stock model.

**Note: In season 1, McKay wore a different vest. Exact model of the vest is unknown, but it look slike a modified Blackhawk Urban assault vest. Further information here.

Belt loops at the base of the vest hold the tactical pistol belt, which loops through the holster (see below). Emergency drag handle on back. Six mag pouches on lower front half of vest; two large pockets and small pouch on left shoulder for radio.

** A tactical vest is not the same as a flak vest. **

Contents of the tactical vests vary between individuals, depending on their position within the team. This is a general list of things anyone might carry.

Standard items:
+ Rations (MREs, PowerBars, chocolate)
+ Flashlight
+ Radio
+ Field Dressing Bandage
+ Extra ammo
+ GDO

Member specific items:
+ Team Leader - Binoculars, GPS
+ Explosives Tech - C4, timer, detonator, etc (Ford seemed to like his flashbangs)
+ Scientist - Laptop, PDA, etc

Tactical Holster and Belt

The Blackhawk Omega VI tactical pistol holster is worn with one of two belts: LCII mylon pistol belt (Sheppard; left image) or the Blackhawk duty belt (McKay; right image).

The sheath for the combat knife (or M8/M9 bayonet) is also looped onto the belt.

The holster has two legs straps and the holster itself can be adjusted to hang higher or lower on the leg.

P-90 Sling

I'm not sure about this. I know they do somehow attach the P-90 to either their tac vest or a harness worn under it, but I've never seen it and the image I have of Lorne & McKay with the P-90 in some sort of sling isn't really clear. It doesn't look like the slings used in SG1. Of course, I can't see it, so I don't know.

Edit: lt_stargate6 confirms that it's the same sling SG-1 uses in this comment.

And thus ends my geekitude for the night. Feel free to direct people here or whatever.
