I have a pressing question!!
My Aunt, who is going to help pay for my college tuition substantially, says that I must attend a foreign university that is accredited in the United States. Ok.
How do I find out if they are?
From the University of Arizona's website I got this:

We only allow transfer credits completed from international post- ( Read more... )

degree abroad

Depending on where I go, I'll either major in: Slavic studies, Russian, or international relations.

do you have a study abroad office or an international office on campus? they could tell you where you could study and even help you apply to transfer the credits. at my school, they did EVERYTHING for me. its a huge help. maybe you should try to contact somebody like that.

I'm not enrolled in college (next year I'll be a senior in high school). My plan was to immediately attend a foreign university. My Aunt thinks I won't last though, which is why I need a back up plan..

o. hmmmmmmm i would talk to someone personally then still at some major university in the US. they might at least give you some idea of where to look. if not, you could contact the international university directly. other than that, i have no clue.

I am not exactly sure what you mean, but I think you're speaking of universities that are fully accredited in America.

1. American College of Greece
2. American University in Cairo
3. American University of Beirut
4. Franklin College, Switzerland
5. Institute for American Universities, France
6. Lebanese American University, Beirut
7. American International University in London, Richmond College
8. American University of Bulgaria
9. American University of Paris
10. John Cabot University, Italy
11. University of La Verne- Athens
12. Saint Louis University, Spain
13. American University of Armenia
14. American College Dublin, Ireland

Check out the Association of American International Colleges and Universities at www.aaicu.org/index.asp. This association lists the university-level institutions in Europe and the Middle East that are part of the American system of higher education.

Good luck!

I think most major foreign universities are accredited in the US. Don't the websites for the universities have this info? Or maybe you haven't narrowed in down yet? ;) If is was a matter of a degree being valid, it would be more simple. Since I think we are talking about transferring credits, the issue becomes more complicated. When I went to London during my undergraduate years, I had arranged beforehand what my credits over there were going to count as when I got back. I was all handled between me and the adviser for my department. The fact my be that it would depend on the university you are attending abroad, and the university you are transferring to. I don't think there are any ironclad rules for transferring credits, only for counting degrees. That is based on my narrow experience though.

Also, your Aunt will help pay for it, but doesn't think you'll stick it out? That's a bit of a mixed message!

Well, as far as transfering credits in case you have to come back to the US, I'd probably find a university I want to go to in the US, and apply to make sure that I could get in. Then look at the universities available for their study abroad programs and go to one of those (not through the study abroad program). Universities generally have good relations with their study abroad counterparts and little problems getting credits transfered. The US uni would all ready be affiliated with the foreign uni, and would have procedures and the like all ready set out. I would think it would make it less of a hassle should you need to come back to the US. If any of that makes sense.
