First, go and watch this trailer for the new Karate Kid movie staring Jacki Chan and Wil Smith’s talented son Jaden.


If this weren’t being billed as The Karate Kid, I don’t think it would be that bad.

I would be unsurprised if it turned out that it was written for an older kid, and then rewritten after casting Jaden ( ... )

It has definite cable free on demand possibilities... though I could be persuaded to go to a $6 matinee if someone else really wanted to go... (after all she did go see Zombieland and Inglorious Bastards with me)

When I first heard they were remaking it, I was a little leery. Then when I heard about all the tweaks, and saw the trailer, I have no interest whatsoever in seeing this.

In 1984 I was only 6 so even if the original had an older target audience I don't know if that really panned out. I certainly don't recall my teen age aunts and uncles really getting excited about Karate Kid the way my elementary and then middle school friends did.
