Sixth grade introduced me to a completely new kind of Hell ( Read more... )

Can I just say that I adore this whole 'without being crushed' site, and especially this posting? I think we must have been the same person (albeit different genders) for at least half of our teenage years, and maybe even now ;)

At some point I'll write the litany of my latest crushed, but since it's in progress, it's not resolved. Maybe it'll make a fine tale next Valentine's....

Glad it's being enjoyed. :)

I've found that, once you start people talking about things, more and more commonalities are drawn out.

And those that aren't common, give insight into the other side (or one of the other sides) of the story.

I was listening to the radio this morning and heard Heart's "Alone" and thought that there were a lot of love songs about crushes. Have you ever made a top-10 list?

Not being that much of a music person, no I haven't.

Though that may be a project for a future entry. :)

Come to think of it, a lot of the songs that would probably make my list are a little creepy. Like The Escape Club's At the Edge of Your Bed and Every Breath You Take by The Police... very stalker-y... hmmm...

Anyway, yeah, a lot of love songs are about crushes. Another bunch are about unrequited love. There are surprisingly few that are about being in a healthy, stable relationship.

"I've Just Seen a Face" by the Beatles, is the one that just popped into my head, relevant to the sixth-grade crush. hee

The only ones I can think of are cheesy, like "I Can't Fight This Feeling" by REO Speedwagon.

Heh. I was a soprano in the school chorus until 8th grade. This was a missed opportunity to score hot chicks at an early age.

We all learn with time. :)

Some of us just more slowly than others.

I missed all my opportunities simply by being oblivious.

Sixth grade was the year I went "nerd." ;) maroonmd February 12 2009, 21:45:20 UTC
I was a fairly popular kid. Not way up there, but in the crowd. There was a very popular boy I had a crush on. I did all kinds of stupid things to try and get his attention, but I was always met with (what I thought was) a big sign to back-off. Now that I look back, it was pretty textbook- he pulled my hair, laughed at me to his friends, basically tried to humiliate me. Still, I tried, and I tried for about half a the year ( ... )
