I am wondering why they took Darren Aronofsky and replaced him with Zack Snyder. Snyder has a great visual eye, but a simplistic ear for narrative. I agree with what Alan Moore told Terry Gilliam, the book is almost unfilmable as it cuts across several generations.

That said, so far I have had little reason to feel negatively about the movie other than ALan Moore's disavowal. He even had a problem with V for Vendetta, which surprised me although the attempts at his League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and his period of Swamp Thing were admittedly awful (but then again Chris Nolan uses a lot of Grant Morrison and Alan Moore's work on Batman over Frank Millers).

That song was recorded in two versions for Batman & Robin I think (I have the soundtrack knocking around) and that was the second one. One of the three or four good tracks to come out of Billy Corgan's faux Nitzer Ebb era imho.

The Minutemen photo is fantastic.

And the location/set shots are also fantastic.

I have no fear that the film won't look right--including Dr. Manhattan (who just blew me away in the trailer).

Cutting across several generations doesn't strike me as that insurmountable of a problem these days ( ... )

But, really, what I'm most worried about is that a lot of the moral ambiguity will just... go away.

I'll give Synder more credit than that--if he turns that into something akin to a X-man comicbook, he's liable to loose the community. While not exactly classic literature, The watchmen is definitely a comic book that comes very close and is dangerous to do because its so easily botched.

However, even if its an amazing movie, however, I expect Moore to hate it.

Well, yeah... I don't think I'll ever expect Moore (or a good many creators out there) to like what other people do with his work.

I only listen to creators when they say they love what's been done... because that immediately raises the bar for the adaptation.

Now, when actors, directors or screenwriters complain about the movie they're making... that I pay attention to.

I just noticed my overuse of the conjunction "however".

Actually, we are getting the pirate story. They're releasing that and UNDER THE HOOD (as a documentary) as separate straight-to-DVD films to promote the movie. Warners is using it as an experiment to use DVDs to promote current films.

Right now, the WATCHMEN cut's at three hours, and he's currently fighting the studio to keep it from getting shorter. When you factor in the separate TALES OF THE BLACK FREIGHTER animated movie and the UNDER THE HOOD documentary which will eventually be incorporated in the final director's cut DVD, we're looking at a five-or-so hour long WATCHMEN. Not bad, all considered.
