It's official, the big Norwegian Doomsday Vault is taking deposits.

Also taking it to that sci-fi extreme, if we've come up with this idea, can we count on other civilizations to have done the same?
I would say that we can not COUNT on much, but I would believe that there is definitely more intelligent life force "out there" that far exceeds our capacity. At least, that is what I hold out hope toward. So, I think there has to be some, but they may very well defy our view of what "civilization" means.

If they are smarter, then, yes. They have probably thought of it already.

No. I do not believe we will be able to characterize and capture humanity and nature. We can capture anything biological in nature, but that is NOT everything.

Here's the bit that gets me about this...if there were some sort of terrible enviromnental disaster, and if there were someone staying inside the vault with the seeds...and if they survived and decided to replant the earth...

WHEN THEY COME OUT OF THE VAULT, THEY'RE ON A SNOWY ISLAND!!! WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO PLANT THE SEEDS!!!??? I'm assuming all transportation has been destroyed...
