won't have to worry about the next election. There won't be one.

Please explain? Would that be because the government would collapse, because the election would be thwarted by logistical impossibility of collecting everyone's vote, or because the president would not relinquish his role?

I've had an awful (but outwardly unjustified) idea since dubya cheated himself into office again that he'd cheat a third time by creating a situation where he'd "justify" not ending his presidency (due to "we can't afford a change of president now, in the midst of fighting all this terrorism!").

I nearly have enough hope left in democracy and freedom to believe that nobody, not even he, could become that blatant a dictator. But nearly is not enough.

Disaster/Terrorist Attack + Executive Orders already in place (and uncontested!) = Martial Law

Martial Law = No Rights Anyway = No Need for an Election

That's the equation in a nutshell.

Some supporting evidence:

Official Text of that EO

Homeland Security Directive from 9 May 2007

An interesting (and chilling) video regarding the disaster scenario

Penn & Teller on Freedom (to cleanse the palate) ;)

So, yeah... I've got more archived around here somewhere... there'll eventually be a full post on all of this stuff.

Ohgod. It's already all set up.

We've all already known what comes next, but we're still trying so hard to not see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Bush won't miss a bunch of California liberals.
