A thought about blogging...

As you all know, I'm still bouncing about, looking for a new job so I can effectively pay my bills and whatnot.

That means I look at a good bunch of job listings.

One that I bounced through tonight has caught my eye. It reads, in part:
REQUIREMENTS ( Read more... )

opinion, career, blogs, storytelling, writing

Applying to jobs while half-asleep, I've found, is generally a bad idea.

Well, a bad idea if one honestly wants to get the job, at least. :)

It will be applied for promptly after work today.

Oh, good! Until I got to

(And, just for the record, regardless of what all y'all think, I'm applying for that job.) ;)

I was worried that you were pulling the insecure schtick I always do . . .

My answer? I don't know. I don't read professional blogs. But there's absolutely no reason not to convince the hell out of them that you're the best man for the job.

You've got the qualifications. Do it. ^_^

. . . although, just curious. How much does being a professional blogger pay, anyhow? That might be a problem.

Can a blogger also be called a blumberjack?

Because I'd really like to listen to a Kier-podcast of him singing, "Ohhhhh, I'm a blumberjack and I'm OK, I sleep all night and I work all day!!"

If you don't mind my asking, what is the company? Is it a paper or online news site of some sort? I guess I'm just confused as to what job in existence would desire their candidate to have "blogging experience." I mean, this isn't meant offensively at all, but anyone can "blog." So their requirements just strike me as a bit odd, I suppose.

I've never read any sort of professional blogs...I honestly didn't know any existed.

Based on how it seems to be basically a journalism job, though, I think applying to it is a great idea. :) It seems almost custom-made for you.

Not going to mention the company just yet (as I try to keep completely identifiable employer references out of here), but rest assured it is a Big Name and recognizable.

See my response to akilika for a list of some pro blogs.

I think it's almost custom made for me... the big question, as always, is if They'll think that. :)

Ah, ok! Well, generally if during an interview you truly believe you're perfect for the position, it will end up seeming to them like you ARE...it's all about self-confidence. So just go in there with that attitude when you apply. :D

I wish you luck! Seems like it'd be such a fun job!

It sounds like exactly what you've been wanting to do, actually. Here's hoping the pay is acceptable, too.
