I own Donnie Darko (the director's cut); I've actually never even seen the other version of the movie. :)
This movie affected me in a lot of ways. The entire movie possessed a very "dream-like" quality, which is part of why it was so impactful to me. The most creepy part of the movie, for me, was how as the plotline progressed, almost every character in the movie seemed to have their inner demons show themselves and gradually erode all semblance of normalcy in the "universe." It's almost as if living became a waking nightmare, and it left me feeling unsettled (in a very good way, of course). Anyway, I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't seen it.
