Interesting interview...

Nothing ground-breaking, but I always find it interesting to hear what the pros have to say about things I do recreationally.

Wonkette’s Ingredients for a Successful BlogSad to say, but I never really read Wonkette regularly (and, really, I still don't). It's not because I don't like it. It's just because, well, I've got all of these other blogs ( Read more... )

I read my friends' blogs -- because that's what I care about. That's it.

I think it's funny how people's eyes gloss over whenever you mention something about feeds, even technical people; I've been using them for years. We set one up at work to syndicate new entries to our internal knowledge base and when we were finished we all agreed it was a waste of time because no one would ever use it. Maybe with IE 7 people will start to catch on.

The Newsgator thing looks pretty cool, but do you happen to know if it continues to collect feeds even while you are not actively checking? That's the nice thing about a standalone client as a few of my feeds are very active and I would likely miss things if I were away and it only grabbed the current articles in the feed the next time I checked. I suspect that's how Newsgator works.

There are ten communities and a dozen or so friends blogs that I try to read. Yeah you can create filters but I don't want to for whatever reason. So when the friends list gets too busy, one of the groups gets whacked. Friends get cut only if their blog is just totally boring and pointless, so it rarely happens. It'll never happen with yours! (grin)

The main reason I read friends and groups posts is to alleviate boredom. With some groups -- anti_righty especially --, it's solely for informational/educational purposes. Initially I was reading certain groups because of the feeling of belonging and camaraderie I got but now the need for that feeling has passed.
