ABC's Lost Gamble
ABC just announced that there will be no Lost until 2007. Apparently, ABC exec listened to fans who hate the current schedule of showing 6 episodes in the Fall, then going on hiatus, then picking up again in the Spring. Most fans wanted a straight, uninterrupted stretch for the season.
Well, now I'm not counting on a fourth season ( Read more... )

have to disagree about lost. look at 24 and american idol. they both start in january and run straight through til may. while on the one hand it does suck that it'll take so long to figure out what the hell happened in the season finale, it is pretty frustrating to get six episodes and then get bombarded with reruns for two months and then get back to the action. i don't think ABC is trying to kill the show off; on the contrary, if this works, it could be very good for the show. the only potential problem is that unlike 24 and AI, lost has a plotline that carries over from season to season whereas the fox shows both are self-contained each season, so will people want to wait almost 8 months for new shows? but look at the HBO shows like the sopranos (talk about erratic scheduling); if it's good enough, people will come back. ABC does have to do a good job of keeping the momentum going in that down time until january, make sure to build lost fans up so that they will definitely tune in when the show returns. the probably need to ( ... )

The biggest difference between American Idol and 24 when comparing them to Lost is the overall popularity of the show. The demographic reach of AI and 24 is much wider and deeper than that of Lost. Add to that the radical change in plot that the season finale introduced (you really need to see it so I don't have to be so vague!) coupled with a longer wait for some sort of resolution may very well be more than the patience of some of the less rabid fans (which, I think, is most of the people who watch the show) can take.

And as far as HBO shows go, that year between seasons of The Sopranos did not do good things for the continued watching of the show after the first episode of the new season. People didn't remember what had happened and their dedication (except for the die-hard fans, of course) waned. If it wasn't a) HBO and b)The Sopranos, it would have died a hasty death and wouldn't be coming back for the death rattle of a "season" that's left.

There is no question that Threshold and Commander in Chief were horribly mis-manged by ( ... )

Thank God I never got hooked on Lost.

I tell you I use Cox's DVR for most of my TV watching and their freezone for on Demand TV (though it needs serious expansion) Now if they stop cancelling shows I like and put a bullet in Reality TV (they're just Game shows, ain't nobodies reality like that).

I wish I my mac was hooked to my recieiver and iTunes had a subscription plan and enough shows I just ditch regular cable.
