Yeah.... that plan about posting more in the summer's really working out well, isn't it? ^^;; Evidently I'm a bit lazy. Oh, and I have a bit of a social phobia too. Due to a giant mental block against any from of arrogance. But damn it, I'm working on it. I managed to "watch" one community, and I swear I'm gonna join the damn thing and post me some ( Read more... )

First year of college eh? :)

God knows I found making friends in college very hard (still do actually). I don't know what the system is like where you live, but here there are over 200 people in my year and you keep finding yourself in classes with different people every term. So if you want to make friends you have to move faster then I'm comfortable with.

I've found extracurricular activities are key. Things tend to be more informal, it's easier to join in when people are already in a group and the truth is, that people will rarely actually tell you to fuck off. (pick something that actually interests you though).

...Well, so much for the unwanted Dear Abbey impersonation, I only dropped by to look for more fic ;).

Third-- holy crap, fourth year now, actually. ^^; I started out at a local community college, which was a great way to jump in (and, through sophisticated manipulating of programs, tuition was free), but now I'm at the local state university... FSU... And I'm pretty sure that, in the popular courses, there can be 200 people a class. My major's pretty small, so occasionally I've had more than one class with a person (very occasionally)-- I can talk with people fairly easily, but I can never figure out how to get anything to last longer than a semester. Probably part of it's that I live at home, and I think a lot of people make friends first year with their dorm-mates or something... And I know I really ought to do something extracurricular, but I live forty-five minutes away from town with my parents and somehow I haven't quite learned how to drive yet, so it's a little bit... awkward. The fact I never was much of a group person anyway just compounds that-- but I'll have to find something ( ... )
