It's not a new idea that Jack himself wiped his own memories, though the 'Mr Harkness' of this piece seems to have some rather more sinister motives than some I've seen (where it's to prevent paradoxes or something of that kind). I'm not really clear on the motive behind this, to be honest, but that may be deliberate since you're sticking strictly to younger Jack's POV throughout.
It's a shame you can't come to terms with Ten, because Ten and Jack provide all sorts of wonderful fodder for angst, betrayal and hurt-comfort :)
