But I'm just bad at gender roles in the end. "Excessively independent" is one of the things I like most about myself :D

I love being independent, too. But I know that if I want to send the message to anyone that I want a partner, there has to be room for them in my life. Male or female. Girls aren't any different in that. My two best lesbian couple friends are two independent women in their professional world and have their own interests, but when they come home, each needs the other for something, or at least makes room for them in the things they do together.
I don't much like gender roles, as I don't fit them and I like my partners to be somewhat ambiguous, too. So I guess since my experiences haven't had to conform, I don't see it as a rigid thing that anyone else has to conform to.
