Obviously, the movie version of the Sound of Music isn't on right now. NBC's "live" version of The Sound of Music is on right now. There are plenty of reasons why this is a fantastic idea. Kids never really had anything like this on television in their generation. I grew up with three essential theater experiences on my television. I love the idea ( Read more... )

The Cinderella with Lesley Ann Warren is the one I remember watching and loved! The Brandy version was fabulous and the music quality elevated.

I adore musicals and as for specific TV moments, my all-time favorite was probably the original airing of Roots. It was a new style of TV (the miniseries) and it was brilliantly acted and directed.

Completely agree. I love the soundtrack to the Brandy version. It was a nice change with a diverse cast so I appreciated that one a lot.

Roots is one of my favorite mini-series. My mom told me that it's the only television show she remembers running home to see. She and my dad definitely liked it so I gave it a try a few years ago and it's so brilliant.

Interestingly enough (lol), with the exception of the J.A. version of Cinderella (I was 5 - I'm pretty sure we didn't have a TV yet) I saw every one of these as they 1st aired! My fav has to be Peter Pan, which I've seen a number of times tho I really, really love Babes in Toyland - I love the music. "Toyland, toyland (do do) girls and boyland" BRB

Sorry, just had to go and find March of the Toys on YOUtube - lol! and thank you!!!

That must've been really exciting to watch them all on TV when they first aired! I know I would've loved that. I can't even count the number of times I've watched Peter Pan and Babes and Toyland. So obsessed. I love when the kids get to Toyland but that entire movie's incredible. I love the use of bold and bright colors.

Haha, you're welcome! I think I'm going to have to watch that one soon, too.

I loved Peter Pan with Mary Martin! And while I must have seen the Lesley Anne Warren Cinderella, the version I remember best was the Brandy one! Cindergirl would watch it over and over again when she was little, and I loved it, too. In fact, when she was 3 or 4 I took her to a live production of Cinderella, where they'd cast a traditional blonde, blue eyed girl as the lead, and cindergirl turned to me, confused, and said - but where are her braids?! It was awesome. :-)

Hahaha, THAT IS AN AMAZING STORY. I love that! I was 12 when that Cinderella came out and I couldn't stop watching it. Plus, we had a Filipino Prince so I was totally all for that, hee.
