I thought about not writing an entry about this but I don't think that I can ever really let this day slide. I'm leaving the post open for anyone who's still reading this journal after all these years. We all went through the same shared experience 7 years ago so let me know if you're still out there ( Read more... )

Here's the weird thing --

My friend Scott Lax wrote "The Year That Trembled" --
we grew up a few miles apart and also went to college
together, as well as studying in England together.

........... no way. I doubt he remembers me but we talked a few times as that movie was coming out. I went to the premiere in '03. I was so focused on Jonathan though that I neglected to talk to anyone else but Meredith Monroe. That's crazy! What a small world.

I only knew him as a child star --- from his roles in Neverending Story II and It. Such a beautiful kid he was.

I'm pretty sure I comment every year when you make this post about Brandis.

As I've said before, I wasn't a fan. It wasn't that I disliked, I was just unfamiliar with his work outside of Ladybugs and It.

What I DO remember is reading the story about his suicide in People Magazine. I remembered his face from the films of my childhood. I remember being sad reading about his death. I've always had a soft spot for former child stars who struggled in their adult years to reconcile their past fame with their current identity.

I couldn't imagine feeling that alone and isolated, in general, let alone in Hollywood when all you want to do is express yourself creatively but everyone views you as a "has been."

So, the point of my comment" regardless of how unfamiliar I may have been with a significant handful of his work, that doesn't make his death any more tragic.

RIP Jonathan.
