Comike or Comic Market 75

Edit 1-9-09: Apparently the Japanese shorten "Comic Market" to "Comike" instead of "Comiketo"... you learn some thing new everyday. So, the only thing I had hoped to see and haven't seen in Japan is someone with a pompadour... but it could still happen. So far I've seen a guy pee against a wall, a bunch of homeless guys making their neat cardboard ( Read more... )

doujinshi, conventions, comike, cons, convention, japan, blah blah blah

Are there any sites online that sell doijnshi, or does the nature of it limit it to cons?

There are sites that sell them but there are a lot of them that never make it to the shops. We mostly went for the experience and the cheap comics. It's way more fun to go to the convention and exchange with friends afterward.

I don't tend to buy dojinshi in America cause they are usually priced about 15-30 dollars each and they don't usually let you look through them before you buy them. =/

Sounds like your having a lot of fun at Comiket. Now you can see what Abel goes through when he buys for the shop. It’s wild. I’ve never gone, but till I get my shop back up it’ll have to wait. Hope you are having loads of fun. You can tell me all about it when I get back.

It was pretty nutty and there's soo much stuff that's out there that I know never gets out past Comike itself. I bought a lot of the copybon stuff. I wish printing stuff was cheaper over here and more people would actually spend the time to draw comics. Would be cool.

Nutty to say the least. From what I heard, that unless you have an agenda and use the book/cd to plan your route. You will never find anything at Comiket. Its way too big and you can’t just wander and browse like at the American cons (or any other convention anywhere). Even with a small army of mules to go look for stuff I couldn’t totally cover Comiket. But still. It would be fun to try. ^_~
it’s not the price of printing, but getting more people to draw. It would be interesting to see what comes up.
Glad you had fun and made it back in one piece.

I really enjoyed Comiket, when I went. I have been to the summer one and the winter one. I wish we had something like Comiket here.

How's the summer one? I heard the heat and humidity can be tough when you're waiting in line. The winter one isn't so bad if you bring some hand warmers.

Yeah, I wish we had something like it here as well. =/ Would be cool.

LOL, it was pretty crazy. I got pushed all over the place on the third day. Thankfully I armed myself with a backpack on that day so had some pushing armor.

The whole thing reminded me a lot of the cons here just condensed down, organized better, and with way more comics. I like the comics!
