*hugs* i hate the car culture. i want to live in a real city. with no car. that would be nice. no locks freezing. no windshields cracking in half. no cars getting impounded.
You can get stuff at auto-parts stores or even at Meijer that will help you deice your door handles and latches. I'm not sure what it's called, but it's usually a can of liquid that you can spray on the frozen areas.
I have a can of the de-icer stuff, cheap and widely available - I haven't used it, though, so I don't know how well it works. It's worth asking your roommates whether they have an extension cord so you can try the blow dryer method. It'd probably be cheaper than taking it to the Toyota dealership!
It's good to hear how much Amy helped you with all this - good roommates are hard to find!
