101 - I/O ROM Error

That's bad, right? *points to subject line* I bought a cheapish laptop on eBay (my old one finally died) and the damn thing won't boot. (I'm currently in the hotel business center.) *wails* I miss having a laptop ( Read more... )

Ebay is not a good place for laptops, by all means send it back. Fortunately there are lots of bargains these days on laptops, try Newegg and see what's on sale, and good luck.

Thanks for the tip! *makes a note of newegg* The weirdest thing now is that I turned it on when I got to my hostess' house last night - and it worked just fine! She wondered if there was something about where I was in the hotel that was blocking it. ??? I have a couple more days before I have to decide whether to send it back.

Could be either the optical or hard drive is not secure, or that the hard drive is suffereing from "stiction" If it does that again give it a little slap and see if it comes up then.

Thanks again! I'll keep that in mind. I'm back in the hotel - in the lobby - and it's working beautifully again. I figure I'll keep trying it out in different situations and if the problem doesn't happen again, I'll go ahead and keep it.
