The Things they Carry is a great read, but give it some time. You always hear how good it is, but I was really worried there for about 50 pages (it took me a while to get into it).
If you're looking for more recs, anything by Elizabeth Bear (sci-fi/fantasy) and Ray Bradbury's short stories are excellent! Also, I'm sure you've read it already, but Neil Gaiman's "Fragile Things" anthology is *wonderful.*
Continuing my sci-fi book rec theme, have you read "Snowcrash" by Neal Stephenson? A very technopunk feel to the whole thing (again it took me a *long* time to get into the story, but once I did it was a great read) but a wonderful dystopic reality is created.

I don't know if it'll be ready for beta by then, but maybe when you get back? It's totally cracktastic...I'm telling you...think every AU where you went WUH? I know you're leaving Sat, but you up for something on Friday again?
