Linguistic navel-gazing this time

Finnish belongs to the Finno-Ugric group of languages, which comprises mostly of Hungarian, Finnish and Estonian, along with other, less-spoken minority languages. I have some Hungarian workmates/friends and everytime I listen to them speaking in Hungarian I just keep wondering how on earth is Finnish related to that language :D But yeah, we have discussed about the languages and come to some conclusion that maybe there is some slight similarities between the two.

But I can totally see why we would not share the same genes, most of them would never be mistaken for a Finnish because they are all so dark and have so prominent features. Except one of the girls who is all blond and has a very Scandinavian appearence in general.. I have to ask someday if she has any Scandinavian blood in her..

But yeah, I find these language things very interesting as well :)

Yeah, Hungarian sounds so completely different from Finnish and the people differ in appearance so much that I'm amazed how we came to share grammatical structures in the first place :P You'd think that genes and language would travel pretty tightly together.
