the reason chocolate and pop (and anything else sweet really) tastes better is because of the main ingredient: sugar. In the states that sugar will be in the form of "Partially Hydrogonised High-Fructose Corn Syrup" or something similar, where here it's just "sugar", usually from sugar beets. Preservatives do play a part, but not as much in chocolate. Basically it's just using real sugar over some form of synthetic created sugar.

sugar! who would have thought? i have heard that high-fructose corn syrup is supposed to have some bad long term effects, though we just joke about it all the time at home. it's amazing how much better real sugar makes things. i am going to be loading by bags up with chocolate when I return to the States.

Again, I have to imagine that the ones with the inflatable sheep were the younger kids. It's funny... I think that if I went on the trip as a freshman or even a sophomore, I would have been really looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends and spending all this time with them. But now (especially after this summer of really spending a lot of time alone), I think I'd be a bit of a loner. Interesting.

I've always kind of been one to have only a few friends around me. I like people, but I like my down time. There is a group of about 8 of us here that have formed a friendship (which is quite a large group for me). I know what you mean though, as you get used to having alone time, or time with just a few people, it seems like lots of new people kind of invade your space.

Unfortunately, over half of the kids here go to Rhodes, so they all clump together and haven't really been open to meeting new people. It's really only the schools with small groups (like Centenary, Trinity, and Richmond) that have been willing to open up. And it's always the Rhodes kids getting drunk and acting stupid. Maybe I'm just prejudiced against them... or maybe they just need to grow up a little. ;)
