A list of things that I discovered are a MUST if you ever visit Japan (or if I ever have the opportunity to go again):

1.Lonely Planet Book on Japan: I am so happy that Becki brought this book. It has maps, attractions and all kinds of helpful information about pricing, festivals, restaurants, etc. Check it out.

Good to know! Especially regarding money, i'm so used to buying everything on the card and almost never having any real cash, and I do the same when I go other places for the most part. (I was persuaded to get kroner when I went to Norway and was glad for it, I saw enough ATMs though.)

Yea, that was the first place I've ever been where credit cards weren't readily accepted everywhere. Hence the desperate search for an ATM and discovery that usually only post offices carried international ones. We did know ahead of time that a couple of the places we stayed only took cash so we were prepared for that. Most food places are cash only. Tokyo was better about accepting credit cards though.

did you ever try german? They seem to have a fascination with germans, since, you know...

I didn't try German, but I heard a Japanese woman speak to some German folks in German while I was at this little Japanese lunch house. It was really neat and surreal...
