"My candle burns at both ends
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends -
It gives a lovely light."
- Edna St. Vincent Millay, "A Few Figs from Thistles"

And I was re-reading this article on Virginia Woolf 's famous classic Mrs. Dalloway, which was one of the most incredible and breathtaking books that I've ever read-I ( Read more... )

There is no line between genius and insanity, I think, but a massive grey area.

*Nods* I think you're right. It makes me more thankful for the measure of intelligence that I've got-it's so easy to envy the people to whom learning comes as effortlessly as walking. But there's always a price to be. Also, maybe I'm crazy, but I had to ask-is your icon really from The Interpreter? Because I love that movie but it's so overlooked.

No, but I do love that movie. Nicole Kidman, although a huge movie star, is still not rated well enough and taken seriously as an actress. Especially in Australia. I can see how you thought that, though!

That avatar is Allison Janney, from The West Wing. All my icons are. ;) Obsessed? Me? Never. ;)

Replying to my own comment here, but:

Allison Janney starred in The Hours. Nicole Kidman ALSO starred in The Hours. Which you've been talking about.

I LOVE things like this!

I have always liked the "valley of the shadow of death" psalm. Loved it, really. And I will always hate the new (Finnish) translation of it... Have they deliberately killed off all the poetry and made it sound like a news report, or am I just imagining things? >.>

The funny thing is, I always forget how the "my cup runneth over" part goes, as well.

I have a story concerning the first verse, Isaiah 40:31. I was driving home for the weekend and I saw an eagle. That verse popped into my head, but I didn't think much else about it. So, I continue to drive. Lo' and behold, another eagle! I'm then started to think about the verse and how much hope it gives me. I've been kind of confused and weary lately, and I had just finished praying before I saw the first eagle. So, I know this is weird, but I prayed, "God, let me see more eagles."

I saw 11 eagles on my way back home.

God brings me so much hope. Though I am weary, if I trust in Him, I will soar with the eagles!

Wow. That is incredible.:D It makes me happy(as I'm sure it did you) It's amazing how just when we feel our faith faltering, God sends us some message of hope in an incredibly trivial thing, and it brings us such comfort.:D

i remember my teacher once told me that "genius and insanity will always overlap because they go hand in hand. insanity is just another level of the hidden knowledge all of us are afraid to find. whether it brings us joy or brings us misery, we all have the capability to become geniuses if we dare to cross that line".

we were reading and talking about mrs. dalloway at the time and we all wrote it down. of course most of us were skeptical and thought our teacher was being weird again... but who knows. she just might be right :)
