Mm, romance novels

Just read a cheesy Clare Darcy romance novel called Cecily and blogged about it. :) here's my thoughts.

I needed a break from the relentless depression of Anna Karenina, so read a Clare Darcy romance novel in 2 hours flat, and God, it was such an adorable confection of fun, charm, and spades of romantic tension. Give me a grey-eyed lord with a ( Read more... )

Have you read any Georgette Heyer? Though long gone, she's still my favourite regency romance writer. I don't think any of the newer authors really are up to par. I've lost count of how many times I've read some of her books. ;)

you know, everyone's always recommending her to me but everytime I pick up one of her novels it looks so dreadfully boring...any that is your favorite?

Hmmm... hard to pick just one, maybe "The Toll-Gate" but I quite like "Lady of Quality", "Cotillion" and "Nonesuch" as well.

Oh, I could also have listed all of those that vierran45 mentioned too. Guess I just like her style....

I guess her books are not as 'fluffy' as the modern versions. I like the humour, it's bit on the dry side... very British. :)

Darn, this has made me want to re-read something again.

Clare Darcy is great! Well, great if you're just looking for Regency fluff, anyway. I can't read too many of her books in a row since they're all so similar, but every once in a while they're just what I want.

Have you ever read anything by Patricia Veryan? Her Regency novels are (in my opinion, at least) even better than Georgette Heyer's.

If you want nice fluffy romance, I recommend Julia Quinn. Quite a few of her books induce the "warm fuzzies" feeling in me, and some are great fun.

On Georgette Heyer, I'd recommend Venetia, The Corinthian, Powder and Patch, Arabella, and The Grand Sophy. These Old Shades and Devil's Cub are also favourites :).

I know what you mean about romance novels! They can be so unrealistic and cliché that I am worried about what it will do to my mind, but they make me so happy and light-hearted that I think what they do for my disposition makes up for what they do to my mind :)
