I need a new paranormal-events sub-tag for people who go ghost-hunting or monster-killing and screw it up. Today's story, from Albion, MI, goes something like this.

A perfectly normal 53-year-old man checks into a hotel alone on the night of Saturday, February 27. Early the following morning he does three things. He shoots up the bed, window, walls, and ceiling with a 9mm pistol which, I'm told, can hold a fair few bullets. He puts the alarm clock in the microwave and nukes it. And he writes a note that says "God delivered me from evil and placed me in Albion, Michigan" and dates it for February 28.

At 8:30 in the morning, after local law-enforcement arrives, he shoots a final round through the door, surrenders, and is arrested.

A follow-up article adds the interesting details that he was licensed to carry concealed, was babbling and apologetic, and may have called 911 on himself.

I think it's not a stretch to assume he was trying to shoot something ephemeral. I can only guess he had some reason to think the ephemeral thing was tied to the alarm clock in some way. What's less clear is whether he succeeded in getting rid of it. None of the articles I found report on the final condition of the alarm clock. The sense I'm getting from the facts is one of desperation; I don't get the feeling he entered police custody with the satisfaction of a job well done. For the moment, it's safest to assume that there is still something haunting the Albion Inn, and the only man who knows about it is waiting to be arraigned somewhere near Detroit.

ETA: Worth noting that the name "Albion" has some pretty auspicious connotations, etymologically speaking.
