"Congratulations on your advancement," says Philippus, getting the easiest (but hardest-earned) part out of the way first.
"I've been asked to brief you on your field assignment. We've been able to place a Watcher in a. . . problematic location. Not as busy as a Hellmouth, but an intersection, of sorts, for passing demons too busy with their own affairs to avoid trouble with the locals.
"You were picked because of your skill with the crossbow and the axe. I'm afraid most women in the Academy are outweighed by the locals."
There's a gleam of satisfaction at that; Tricia knows what she's good at, and it's always good to hear that knowledge confirmed by the people in charge.
"A bit far afield, I'm afraid. Budapest, Hungary. Your Watcher is Hajnal Koller. Here." She passes over a folder. "These are maps. Each second copy is marked with the trails the demons usually follow. You've got a bit of travel money--forints, don't worry about spending them before they go to the euro--and an airport map.
"I know you've memorized the Academy numbers, but my cell phone's on the last page of the brochure. If there are any incidents and you're Watcher is hospitalized, I'm one of the staff that's still easily replaced if she needs to go back someone up."
