All this buisiness has been crummy. You're right, the ball is in his court, he needs to figure out how to fix his problems and he's not going to be able to depend on any of his friends to help him figure out how to do it. At this point, he really does need professional help. I've been trying to locate some information to pass on to him, but it's tricky to do that for someone from a another state. What I need to do is tell him to talk to his doctor about it to get references to folks who can help him out. He may not realize what he's doing, he may not actually mean as much harm as he's done, but if he doesn't get help for it, he's going to keep hurting people and someday, it won't be annonymous faces on the internet.

I just haven't been terribly keen on actually trying to communicate any of this to him.

Well, I've been giving it a shot. If you ever find anything that you want me to pass on to him, just let me know.

And yeah, we have discussed some of the psychological implications a bit. He seems pretty alarmed that things got to that point. He's got a year to get his act together, so hopefully he'll buckle down and talk to a professional about it; there's only so much I can do.
