Hail to the Woman!

Okay, so I'm intrigued by the perception of body image and how men and women perceive the women's physique. Did you know that the average size of a woman in the UK is a size 16? That Australian men are more attracted to size 14 women than anything? That most women in the US are a size 12 or 14 despite the constant displays in the media promoting ( Read more... )

I get confused with the sizes...we work differently here. I'm a size 8 or 10 NZ size, not too sure what that amounts to in your sizes. I have bits about me I like and bits about me I dont like. Then I think meh, guys dont really care about all that...its the woman who think it matters. I'm getting past the stage of constantly comparing myself to my twin.

SO yes Hail all women and their body's

I get really upset when there's this perception that a real woman can't be a size 5 or something smaller. I certainly feel ugly when there's a lot of propaganda saying that women in other sizes are bigger sizes (saying that it's more "normal"). I'm a naturally smaller size, and I get so peeved at the idea that I'm somehow not really a woman because I'm not naturally a bigger size like other woman.

I know this isn't what you're prompting, but whenever I see "justifications" for size, I get really frustrated.

Yeah, I understand that there are smaller women. I guess my point is that there are different frames and there is no way that a large frame person is going to be a size 3-4. I actually had someone tell me that which kind of pissed me off.

Women come in all shapes and sizes, but I think in America, all they see is the smaller sizes. You're small and you're fit and healthy, which is good (and I envy...grrr).

And I wasn't really aiming that naturally small women are unattractive. I guess my point is that the general populace shouldn't aim to be a size 3 because Kate Moss is. Everyone should be happy with their bodies because our individual shapes make us beautiful.

Ich liebe dich, my friend, and no offense.

Yeah, I totally understand that. The "big boned" theory I've heard so many times is pretty accurate.

Women come in all shapes and sizes, but I think in America, all they see is the smaller sizes. That's so funny, because I've never really noticed the fascination of thinness in American culture. I mean, I HEAR it all the time, but when I look around, I definitely don't think there's an obsession with thinness - unless it's runway fashion which I loathe and pretty much ignore. Sometimes I feel like the obsession with thinness is just an extension of people's obsession with fashion and celebrities. Like Audrey Hepburn was the first thin actress after a string a curvier famous women. Once this happened, you had models like Twiggy from England, who were also very thin. It's a fashion/celebrity thing ( ... )

I believe we can all agree on this - those women are quite lovely, and they definitely don't need to lose weight.

BRAVO!!!!!

Excellent point, my dear. And good for you!
