I am sorry to bother you, but you are one of the only two lj-users whe have misnagdim in the list of their interests. I's like to understand who misnagdim are. Right now all I know is Chabad point of view. But, are there currently people who call themselves misnagdim? How are they different from just orthodox jews?

Thanks!

Misnagdim are a subcategory of Orthodox Jews, just as Chassidim are. Wikipedia does a decent job of saying who we are ( ... )

Thanks! I of course looked at the wikipedia, but for me it is important to hear from a misnaged, as I want a subjective, not an objective, point of view. That's why it is very important for me to hear from you. Thanks again!

So, are you saying that any orthodox Jew is either a Misnaged or a Chassid? In other words, do misnagdim have something special that distinguish them from all the other orthodox Jews, or are they simply "mainstream", "oldfassioned" orthodox Jews, as opposed to Chassidim?

Also, from Chassidim I heard that 200 years ago Misnagdim, in their hatred went so far that asked for the help of secular authorities to put some Chassidic leaders into jail. Chassidim I talked to claim that the attitude remains the same in our days too. (And though on-line sources confirm what I am told about old days, they are unanimous in saying that this attitude has calmed down by now.)
I need to know your own feeling: would you daven with Chassidim? Would you spend a Chabbos as their guest?

Thanks again!

I think the topic of this post answers your question. I do often daven with Chassidim, and have often spent Shabbes as their guests and vice versa. I do wish that they were more tolerant of our viewpoint, but many of them are... I have though on occasion been told by a Chassid than a misnaged practice or prayer text is "wrong", or been asked to do something a Chassidic way. But this is the exception rather than the norm ( ... )
