Twin Peaks fic: Suburban Dreams [Cooper/Albert]

Sep 18, 2010 11:34

As a writer, I have this strange principle that, whenever I like a pairing enough to write several fics about them, I should also write the story of how they got together. Call it a need for coherence, call it a compulsive reflex - but in a way, I feel like I'm cheating when I just postulate a pairing without also showing how it could have come to ( Read more... )

This was really good. Funny in some places and touching in others.
I tried some of the other Twin Peaks Albert/Cooper stuff on your rec list and I am now firmly convinced that it's YOUR Albert/Cooper that I like to read and no one elses.(Also glad you're at AO3 because I'll be when I delete this journal(and at dreamwidth). I just wish there was a Twin Peaks comm or TP fic comm over at dreamwidth.

Thank you! And yes, I'm also in the process of experimenting with Dreamwidth, and a little disappointed about the lack of certain comms there. But for myself, I don't think I'll be leaving LJ anytime soon.

I friended you over at dreamwidth. I am not planning on deleting anytime soon(I am paid through April 2011), but I think with the new crossposting feature that the next LJ fail will involve someone's fanfic and furor over it. There are some people in the world who would see the words Harry/Draco and have fits or think it's child porn. I'm just getting comfortable elsewhere for when the you know what hits the fan, I won't be left with my butt in the wind.

Undercover in a gay bar is Twin Peaks canon? Oh dear. And here I was, thinking that it was an overdone fanfiction cliché.

Your Cooper characterisation is especially good in this one. His reaction to Albert's little... problem rings perfectly true: the honesty, the checking of the pulse - so much Cooper, and so funny. I almost felt sorry for Albert for a while. And the kiss! So sweet and so touching it makes you melt.

On a totally different subject, I see that you've been trying Dreamwidth recently. Is it very different from LJ? I've always wondered, just not enough to actually check it...

Well, by canon I might have been exaggerating a bit. *g* It's in a novel, which you might or might not consider canon. (Personally, in most fandoms - especially the big ones like ST where it's novels galore! - I don't, but TP really only has a handful of novels, all written by people involved with the show. So there, I get the impression most fen who've read them do take them as canon.) Incidentally, Cooper's bio can be found on the web, right here. Just do a find on 'gay bars' if you want a peek at the scene this is about. :) The same website has Laura Palmer's diary as well, though I haven't read that yet.

Glad you liked this - both the humorous and the serious bits. Seeing the premise I started with, I keep finding it pretty amazing how serious it turned out to be. Not the Great Big Dramatic kind of serious, but still the first slash fic where I've had the guts to tackle some LGBT themes in a less-than-evasive way. (Granted, with Londo/G'Kar there never was much of an issue, but still... :)) Apart from that, I was afraid the kiss ( ... )

The feel of leather against skin is a surprisingly sensual experience. That does it, Copper's autobiography is now on my "to read" list. *g*

The seriousness of the fic turned out pretty well, I think, because it wasn't overdone, but at the same time was more or less expected. Albert at least can't be silly all the time, even if he were willing to try. So yeah, well done.

And thanks for the compliments, they make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :)

Cooper's autobiography - I'm in two minds about it, really. It swerves pretty wildly between excessive quirkiness and teenage angst, and personally I'd have preferred it all a little more subtle, but it's still a fun and fascinating read, imho.

And - you're very welcome. :)

Thank you so much! In a fandom as small as this one, every review is a precious precious thing to me, so I'm thrilled to hear you've been enjoying my stories. :)

I just read this for like the fifth time and I'm completely boggled as to why I never left a comment in the first place. Did I leave a comment somewhere else? Jeeze.

I am so charmed by this fic, every single time! It is possible I grow more and more charmed with every reread. Great characterization as always. Love Cooper to bits and pieces. Both of them, really! But this: “Just checking if I had.” Cooper, you smart-ass. So good.

Eee, I always love it when people come back to a fic after some time and leave a comment then; somehow it charms me even more than instant feedback. So thank you!

The frustrating thing (for Albert, at least) about Cooper's smart-assery (is that even a word?) is that you never know when he's stone-cold serious and when he's just pulling your leg. :)

How have you been, by the way? It's been some time, hope you're doing okay!

I'm surprised it took me so long! I've definitely read more than twice. Love it so much.

It's one my favorite Cooper traits, not going to lie. Enigmatic unto the end! Even when he's being a little smart-ass.

I am good! I'm hanging in there. I'm back in school so I am ridiculously busy and it's quite unfortunate. I was actually working on your help_japan fic last night (I am SO SO sorry it is taking me so long!) and decided I hated it, hence why I ended up reading. . .most of your Twin Peaks fic over the past two days. And everyone else's Twin Peaks fic as well. Better than homework, I say! How are you doing? It's a while, hasn't it?
