Karen here with May's Non-Animanga Site of the Month! It's my first time selecting a site, a chance for which I'm grateful. (Thanks, mods!) I was pleased to find that quite a few nominations had come in, but of course that makes the choice all the more difficult. In the end, I had to go with none other than ...
No QuarterAnna Milton, Supernatural - Created and maintained by Barbara
It's no secret that the appearance of new TV character fansites delights me - still, Barbara's dedication to "fallen angel" Anna Milton of Supernatural is an excellent example of a shrine regardless of the source media.
The shrine's visual design is immediately appealing. No tiny text or wispy montages here; instead, a striking header image, and blue/ magenta colour scheme. The navigation is straightforward, as visitors can access information pages directly from the index. The page links are grouped into themed sections with brief, clear descriptions.
Within these pages is a fairly complete portrait of a character Barbara describes as "a strong female character who wasn't, you know, evil." After a succinct introduction to the series and Anna, Barbara provides descriptions of the six episodes in which Anna appears. While not spoiler-free, these descriptions are general enough to entice readers to watch the episodes themselves. (Having only seen a few Supernatural episodes from the first season, I'm definitely now inspired to watch more!)
There are also pages dedicated to Anna's background, her relationships with the other characters, mythology, and speculations about future developments. The writing is kept to a high standard, yet relaxed and witty all the same.
Barbara's enthusiasm for the series and admiration for the character is readily apparent.
As Todd says in his nomination:
This is my absolute favourite site of Barbara's; I can tell it was a labour of love. The site is not only an in-depth tribute to a minor character from a TV show, but it's quirky and interesting. As a Supernatural fan, I found it incredibly interesting, but I imagine it can be enjoyable for fans new to the series who don't mind spoilers, too, as Barbara has clearly explained everything you need to know.
Amen!
