Provided I've understood all this, I know exactly what you are talking about when it comes to the Longing: Everyone has their own specific longing, whether it be to live in a different place or world (such as the faerie world you and Yeats were speaking of) or simply something more mundane, and it can become quite a driving factor that gives us life.

I'm so glad that you think so too. I feel like there are a lot of people out there you never feel any desire for their own kind of neverwhere (perhaps the people who are wishing for the mundane, but I may be being overly harsh there) I don't know that it makes you a better person, in fact, you are probably more selfish if you possess such fierce longings. Sometimes, I feel like life would be so much easier without longing, or wishing or imagination, but would you truly want to live like that? Just the thought of all that repetition and sterility is enough to make me scream. All passion would be gone, and that's just too horrible to think about.

I'm sure you've read this somewhere during school or college, but a great book that covers this is "A Brave New World". I don't remember the author offhand, but its pretty well known. No matter how much people may actually wish the world was "perfect" with no pain, strife, longing, difficulty in general, there can be no passion, and without passion there can be no art, no creativity, and no real purpose or sense in life.

I may hold "outdated" values close, such as romanticism and chivalry (I love the Middle Ages if you haven't realized) and I know this day and age doesn't have much space for either. But even knowing this, holding on to it and trying to persue my values in the midst of many who don't brings a lot of joy to my life. Well, I could just keep going on and on... so I'll bring it to an end.

You're the kind of person that makes the world a good and interesting place to live. And darling, keep on rambling - never cut yourself off like that - I'll read your post no matter how long!
