Well, this is an interesting point of view. I didn't know about the Totosai line, but probably, they are somewhat trying to show Sess's nobility and the fact that he is searching for his own answers. But now there's a question I have, will tessaiga still kill, or can it be also used to give life?
The looks on Sesshomaru's face as Inuyasha is cutting his sword make so much more sense to me now if you read it as he's doing it knowing what's about to happen.
I think Tessaiga will be able to revive people now.
I think revival won't exactly be helpful if your trying to cut through a tenatacly Naraku. But then, it did work in the 3rd movie. I think Sess somehow knows that this was like a test for both him and Inu and they somehow had to pass it.
I'm not discounting what you've said. In fact, I'm rather hoping it's true. Still... *sigh* Can't Inuyasha or anyone for that matter have character growth that *doesn't* involve a weapon?
I'm rather dubious as to whether or not Inuyasha is Tessaiga's true sucessor. After all, Inupapa is a rat-bastard, so I wouldn't be surprised if little brother wasn't the final test. When the chips are down can Sesshoumaru really kill his brother? I'm thinking no. After all, Sesshoumaru has had oodles of time to off the guy and he's always found some lame excuse.
Anyway... wishful thinking/pure speculation. As I've said elsewhere, Inuyasha isn't that deep.
I just wish I knew what the point of the meidou-arc was or the Toukijin breaking or the countless other things that seemed to steer Sesshoumaru to the path of light.
I agree with you on this meaning of that line... your first interpretation made me worry a bit, since I hadn't considered that (I kind of completely missed that intense look Sesshoumaru had when Tenseiga broke, oops...) and it was possible. This makes me feel better. Sesshoumaru, for all of his pride, seems a bit too smart to not realize what was going to happen. I didn't think so far as to remember Totosai's line about Sesshoumaru surpassing his father though, that's so cool. Sesshoumaru is so cool. *fangirls*
I love reading your little analysis of each chapter, by the way, since I miss so many things you notice. Also, these latest Inuyasha chapters are too good not to discuss and squeal over afterwards, heh.
Thanks, glad it's good for something. I feel so repetitive sometimes giving my thoughts each week, lol. But it's fun to document my thoughts and look back and see how wrong I was on my assumptions/speculations, hehe. Also, there's nothing like preserving those moments of fangirl squeeness when something awesome happens.
Love your icon, btw. Neat how Rin's dress is colored.
