In "I meant to see this in the theatres, really, but now I'm finally seeing it on DVD" news...

Hey, how come Now You See Me got such mediocre reviews, and absolutely no buzz on my flist? I thought it was pretty awesome! It had me in the first 45 seconds, no lie. Magic and showmanship and fun plot twists and an ending that filled every narrative need...yeah, I really liked it, and I'd say that even if it didn't feature Mark Ruffalo and ( Read more... )

I really liked Now You See Me, but thought the romantic subplot was awkward. If that portion had been cut out or made less awkward then I would have thought it perfect.

I was okay with it and that admittedly may have been because I can't imagine how anyone could not be in love with Mélanie Laurent and Mark Ruffalo, so. ^_^

It was the best film I've seen this year - I was so fed up with guys beating the shit out of each other for no very apparent reason (I walked out of the Batman movie before the end) that it was a relief to find something with an intelligent plot (also, I love caper shows).

But it doesn't inspire me to fanfic (I write Hustle if I want caper fic.)

I have to be hit just right to want fanfic--I have to absolutely fall in love in a unique way with some aspect of the characters or universe. So not every source that I love prompts me to write. Still, I love twisty plots and this one satisfied so very, very much!

I don't think it opened here... Some advertising, but not sure it actually came to anything.

The effects looked okay, and it's got The Hulk n stuff, but I don't like films about crooks. Maybe they are not crooks, I don't know, but... maybe the advertising just missed?

Anyway, you say it's good, so if it comes up I'll DL it.

Do you like it when crooks get hoisted on their own petard? Because if you do, then you may like this one. :)

I like twists more than I like capers, and this felt more like a twist movie than a caper flick to me. People getting what you feel should be coming to them--oh, yeah, that's the basis of stories for me. Probably another thing I liked about this so much.

It's hard to pin point. I love the bad guy. Give me a Snape, a Loki, a Lex Luthor and I'm in love. But I don't like bad guys who might rob my house. (It's all about me!)

But I also don't want anyone to go to prison. I don't watch murder shows like Midsommer Murders because I generally feel just as sorry for the murderer as I do for the victim. (What a wuss!)

OMG I loved it too and I'm basically the only person I know who did!

I really, really liked that it was both a movie about sleight of hand and a movie made of sleights of hand. It's so clever :) I could have done without the very last scene in Paris that I thought was a little awkward, but it's more or less my only gripe. Though to be fair I've only seen it once, so I didn't get to see it again knowing the twist.

Also Mark Ruffalo, yes. ;)

I can see why the last scene might have been just a little too much, but, still, Ruffalo and Laurent--you have to cheer for them to recognize why they should never give up on each other, because, Ruffalo! And Laurent! *hearts them*
