What the hell am I doing WALKING in LA? (at 25... nevermind, nobody knows that song)

I'm sure I've heard someone make this glib comment before, but I actually came to the same conclusion independently while walking around LA yesterday (Yes, I WALKED ( Read more... )

UGH, I just read about the wisdom tooth. I felt a stab of sympathy pain in mine. It's how twins work after all.

I hope they gave you lots of happy pills. *hug*

I don't even know who won. I just got home from spending the day in downtown here and I forgot to check. I've only seen Juno of the nominees. Sad. I really used to be so passionate... I wrote reviews for a movie magazine, for God's sake!

I didn't really plan anything... to the point where I didn't even have a map

That's the way of getting to know a city that I like best. Just hang around there, walk about and absorb its atmosphere, without ticking off monuments and museums from a guidebook. Of course it's nice not to miss something that's really worth seeing. ;)

It's great you got to know L.A. I have an image of it in my mind that's completely molded by movies so it's either gloomy shady post-industrial landscape where it always rains, or upperclass suburbs with identical white-picket-fence estates where it never rains.

Good for you to give some more thought into the whole move to Japan idea. It's not a bad one at all but maybe it's better not to make it happen on an impulse. ;) My itch to move is getting stronger and stronger too...

I was a good girl too, I did as I promised. I was waiting around for the bus in Union Station at two am and discovered I had paper and pen. I'm so tired right now, I can't even feel my body, but it's right there in my backpack. ;)

Hehe. The quote I paraphrased in my title is "Drinking In LA" from a weird song by Bran Van 3000. Yes, I remember their name. I'm a weirdo.

I'm going to go back some weekend when it doesn't rain, but I really enjoyed walking around Hollywood in the November-style weather.

I am very sorry I couldn't join you. My mom's angiogram went well, but she was not allowed to bend over to pick up anything (or put on socks and things like that) for three days, and I spent the day with her. You wouldn't have had to walk about at least -- LA is not well seen that way. I mean, it's pretty damned ugly any way you cut it, but there are pockets of beauty and weirdness and fascination there that are worth seeing. Glad you enjoyed VP, though. Sounds like Agent Tightpants did not let you down. :)

Oh, there's no need to apologize. I'm glad your mom is feeling better and she's lucky to have you. :) And really... I would have walked anyway. I'd leave you savoring your lunch and have you meet me there in a couple of hours once I'm done walking up and down Hollywood blvd. It's just inconceivable to me exploring any city in any other way. It's not like I HAD to walk, there's plenty of sightseeing tours and such, but I prefer being a vagabond. Well, I rode the subway a lot too, just to confirm the writers of 24 didn't make it up as a contrivance for a Jack Bauer chase.

I'm glad you had fun. I find that no show or film has actually captured the actual feel of the place like "Haunted" did. It's pretty much just like that. It's got a muscular, seedy sense of place to it. Did you get to visit the Chinatown/Olvera Street/Union Station area? There's some parts of town there that put you straight into a film noir set.

That was my first stop, but it started to rain and it was annoying and cold, not the fun kind of rain. So I only walked around a little around the square and Maria de los Angeles (at least I *think* that's what the cathedral is called) but the rain chased me away from Olvera and I had already begun exploring downtown/jewelers district by the time it stopped so I didn't go back.
