If it makes you feel any better, that's common. People get fungal infections on their skin all the time.

This is going to sound weird, but...I think I might have that same problem. I always figured it was some kind of allergic reaction to my body jewelry since my belly button is pierced and it seemed to go away when i changed the jewelry, but occasionally the itching/flaking comes back and it'll be really itchy for like, a week, or until I stop scratching and leave it alone. I also thought that maybe it was just my skin being dry/sensitive. I'm kind of horrified to think that i might have a fungal infection, too. LOL. perhaps I should make a dr appointment myself... O_O

I'd recommend you investigate for the "origin point" of your itchiness/ irritation. If the itch seems to be mainly coming from the piercing and radiating out, you may have a sensitive to not just the old jewelry, but also the new one you chose. Do you have implant-grade stainless in there?

If, like me, the "itch" is a deep, irritating sensation that makes you root around in your belly button? Yeah, go see a doc. Or save yourself the co-pay and buy a tube of lamisol at the pharmacy, cause it's exactly the same stuff.
