five things i'm accomplishing over spring break

Mar 02, 2009 22:13

1. finish The Watchmen (& see movie), La Perdida, & get halfway through Discipline and Punish by Foucault
2. Clean the apartment
3. Antiquing!
4. Become a member of The Bloom Collective
5. Get glasses

Somewhat uneventful for my last spring break, but I'm okay with it.

anyone got suggestions for comics?

Read Y: The Last Man. Sure, it's Spanish, but it's hilariously awesome. It's about a guy who is, obviously, the last man on earth, but is not exactly what you'd expect. Also, he has a pet monkey.

Yea! That's on my list of comics to read, but I'll have to move it higher up since you recommended it. I've got a few Birds of Prey right now, hopefully getting more this week. I'm new to the comic book & graphic novel scene, but I'm digging it so far.

i like graphic novels a lot. i'd like to read maus by art spiegelman, fun home by alison bechdel, ghost world by daniel clowes, and maybe persepolis by marjane satrapi. maybe one day i'll get to alan moore's and frank miller's stuff. also neil gaiman is known for his comics/graphic novels, so i'd check out some of that.

also, i don't think i'm smart enough to read foucault, although i've always been into philosophy like that.

thanks for the link. i'll have to check out maus and neil gaiman. fun home and persepolis are both great, you should read them.

i'm struggling with foucault. i'm working on a project about how the prison industrial complex affects women who are not in the system, so i'm reading it to get a base understanding of the theories behind the p.i.c.
