ETMOLOGY IN BRIEF

Remember a few entries back when I ruminated on the qualitative differences I perceive between terms like "cute," "sexy," and "hot"? Well, another series of words has gotten to me today after a training client called me one of them and I feel like I have to vent ( Read more... )

Oh Friend -- I agree we all have these things. I actually like curvy but I think most people just think that is another word for plus size which I am not (I have been close to it before). I could go on about this one but I am at work and its busy so I must be brief...

As for skinny I think you should show this client your halloween picture in which you look like a carved piece of marble with a six pack. I would have been frightened had I run into you with your boxing gloves lady!

I see what you're saying about "skinny," especially having seen people who make up the horrible bony skinny that is just offensive. "Slender" is pretty unoffensive, I like that one.

I have a huge problem with "curvy," because in recent years, as Jenn said, it has taken on meaning as simply plus sized. I think of myself as curvy because I have hips that are larger than my liking, and a vastly different waist size than hip and boob size. The TRUE definition of curvy. However, now that it's just a euphemism for "fat," I'd be offended if someone called me curvy, just knowing what the general population thinks that word means. So many times someone is described as curvy to me when it turns out they're just fat, and not in a healthy way.

Word to the "curvy" - both you gals are the curvy business: boobies, tiny waists, and hot booty.

This whole "curvy-fat" thing baffles me since most fat people look somewhat like potatoes and have their curves all covered up anyway.

Curviness is the hotness!!!

Wow I just noticed that sounded super cruel, and I didn't mean it to sound as such - I just meant that large women tend to have a bit more around the middle, versus the narrow middle that defines the CURVE!
