This is an old Hawaiian proverb which means, "Come and see the truth with me." After having been to Maui (for the first time) and returning to the Big Island (Hawai'i), I can honestly say that I feel like I've had a glimpse of what the world is really supposed to feel like ( Read more... )

I must agree. I mean, I've never been to the Maldives, or Galapagos, or even anything as remote as like Guam, but as islands go, Hawaii is pretty darn amazing for being so close!

Looooove Hawaii. Kauai was my favorite because it is so lush and beautiful, but Maui was a close second. And I agree: Being that close to nature would make anyone reflect on their own spirituality and just treasure their time on this beautiful planet.

Do you think Kauai alone would make a good week's worth of trip, or is it too small to take up a whole 7 days? Please advise.

I think so. You might have to do a bit of "roughing it" to keep everyone's interests up (i.e. camping on the beach, which I hear is amazing but did not attempt) but like I said, it was my favorite. We took a small boat (size of those Navy SEAL boats) tour in the ocean and dolphins swam up next to us. It was phenomenal.

Let me have Libby weigh in on this one also. She might remember a little better than me.

Campbell and I took the boat trip she spoke of on Kuwai. We also went to the Grand Canyon of the Islands which could be a couple of days of hiking. I drove C crazy with my infatuation with the bird life. We also took a canoe trip up the river, which runs through the middle of Kuwai. That was really fun. Looking back I wish I had been more carefree with the waterfall we went to. I think you could easily spend a week there. We did not get an opportunity to go horseback riding, which would be great there. Plus there is also a plethora of touristy things to try which I have not mentioned. Lots of folks go just to Kuwai and skip the way more sophisticated Maui and O'ahu. Make sure you go to Hawaii, too. The volcanos are amazing. I have a picture of Bob and I sneaking out onto a forbidden area. The next week it fell into the ocean. Yikes.

Very jealous you had a puke- and poo-free Hawaiian adventure. Someday I might want to try it your way.

As I am pretty sure I have told you -- Hawaii is my favorite place on earth. Yes, I realize I have not been everywhere on earth but I immediately relax and feel happy upon boarding a plane to the islands. Thus far I have made it to all but 2 islands, Lanai (hopefully I will make it at Thanksgiving this year) and Nihue (you have to be Hawaiian to go there). Maui is my favorite though Molokai was pretty awesome too. Kauai is extremely beautiful and great for either a romantic getaway or a large group trip. There really isn't much activity there - its really about nature except its a little rough to swim in the ocean due to the currents. Since you are not a fan of the ocean you may absolutely adore Kauai.

I will move to Hawaii at some point. for real.
