Well, I have been educated today! Thank you, Amanda and Google. :-)

We call a swede a 'rutabaga' in most of the US.

And you probably drew a face on it because before pumpkins were available in the UK, swedes were carved into jack-o-lanterns for Halloween.

I've never head rutabaga before. I know that a courgette is a zucchini and an aubergine is an eggplant, but I didn't know that one!

I also didn't know that about the Hallowe'en thing either - but we don't really celebrate it over here much anyway (nowadays anyway, sounds like we used to) so I've never really thought much about it!

I knew aubergine, but I don't think I've heard of courgette before. And I don't think I've actually ever eaten rutabaga, so I couldn't recognize it from the picture. I maybe bought one once and then just let it rot in the fridge because I had no idea what to do with it! (or that could have been a regular turnip)

They do look like turnips, yeah... though I'm not sure if I've actually eaten turnip. Hmm.

Usually when we have swede/rutabaga (I'm sorry, I find that word amusing!) at home, we boil it and then mash it with carrots which is rather tasty.

Isn't this all nice and educational? :-D
