I have no original ideas of my own. None.

Sigh.

What do people read books about?

I am not even shitting you. I have no idea.

Original ideas are rare. I grab ideas from all over (like a bit of Criminal Minds here, a bit of Torchwood teamstuff there, a cute scene I witnessed there, that ballet I went to with Nick). That is how it goes, and when you put your characters--which ARE original, and toss them into that soup? THey will help you out, I promise!

Yes I am one of those who firmly believes characters drive plot. And I am a plotmeister! Still! That's where the originality comes into stories. :)

Both books on my nightstand are Katharine Hepburn biographies. Which is maybe not so helpful. Sorry.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with characters. I have a problem with plot.

I can't help you. Currently I'm considering a monastic lifestyle to end my writing angst once and for all.

To get this society up and running, would you beta something for me if I sent it to you next week, if you do that sort of work?

I'll pitch in and add a different note... I read mainly (not 100% or else I wouldn't be reading Torchwood tie-in books) for style, unique settings and plot.

Right now I'm in the middle of China Mieville's The City and The City, which has very spare characterization, by design. I really like it, though not as much as his other books. It's a murder mystery set in two totally different cities that exist in the same space. It's not set up via magic portholes... it's a totally different system.

That sounds awesome. Someday I'm going to play with that, but right now I'm looking at a different market. :(
