AU Recs

I've been enjoying the stuff posted to two different AU-centric challenges recently. The first is Racebending Revenge, in which a white character is written as a character of color. The second is au_bingo, which is more general, and includes a lot of potentially hilarious premises ( Read more... )

Re Hiraeth - it's a rewrite. Already she's got some substantial changes.
(and Hiraeth had a happy ending - I'm betting she 'fixes' that.) (And she used to have an email addy - she used to have a forum - she used to answer feedback - she walked among us! She just stopped.)(And since you need an email address to post at Ephemeral, that's probably why there's one visible.) (And this need more parenthetical sentences - it just does).

See, I do not count Hiraeth as having a happy ending--dead babies! Partial amnesia! Exile! Do not want!

Perhaps I was only talking to people who weren't around during the days when she interacted with people. All I've heard is the Mystery of the Invisible Fic-Writer.

Thanks for the heads-up about Hiraeth's unhappy ending. I will avoid it like the plague. I've been wondering about why she is posting it to Ephemeral. She let her website go down, but it got picked up by reocities. Maybe she misses us? Nope, I got nothing. She did post with an email address way, way back in the day. I'm still hoping she might finish "American Pie," but not very hard, 'cause it's not very likely.

I should mention that not everyone thinks it's an unhappy ending (non-specific spoilers in my response). I also think there's a very good stopping point wherein EVERYTHING WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE IF SHE'D CUT IT OFF RIGHT THERE. It's frustrating, because the characterization and worldbuilding are fascinating and compelling, but then (predictably!) Mulder keeps Scully out of the loop and ventures off on his own and from thence proceeds stupid. PREVENTABLE FUCKING STUPID.

Did I mention I spent like five middle-of-the-night hours reading this thing, and then wanted to punch the computer? Keep in mind that I think Negative Utopia has a happy ending.

People really don't know that I'm a barbieshipper that uses big words, huh?

Well, if she's reposting this, the odds have increased exponentially, right? But I'll admit, I'm highly suspicious about *why* she's reposting, for exactly the reasons you give. A more paranoid me would suggest this isn't her, but, well, I'm not quite that paranoid. Quite.

The Dr Who story, Five Things People Might Have Read On The Psychic Paper (If Things Were Slightly Different) by Grey Bard is brilliant. Thanks for the rec. It made my day.

Oh, I loved it! I just watched The Big Bang last night, and am in a pleasant Whoniverse mood. Sigh.

Am I weird if I find Phile politics fascinating?

Also, great recs, I wish there had been more racebending fics. That Firefly one is amazing.

Snow's stuff for both these challenges really makes me want to read more of hers. She does really interesting things with the Firefly universe.

If you are looking for some good ol' school wank, plz to be reading Jeylann's The Edge. Or, actually, don't bother reading the story, just scroll to the end and read the author's note. I lol'd for like half an hour. Many, we made some grade-A wank back in the day.

(And then go back and read her Just Say Yes, because, stoned scully + eighties music + mulder the faghag ftmfw.)

Me too. I didn't get that it was a 60s au until the end and had to read over. What a tidy, brilliant little piece.

Also,
every bit as foul as
anything Mulder struggles against at the FBI
