Fantasy Land

I went to France for the first time the summer before my senior year of high school.  I'd won a prize from my school and had worked and scrimped and saved to be able to afford to visit my penpal and her family.  I had been studying French since I was twelve.  I'd never flown further than Orlando before, I'd never set foot in Europe, never seen a ( Read more... )

Ahhhh, so true!

I've always taken the fact that I live right outside D.C. for granted. But since getting heavy into Philedom, I've come to appreciate it a lot more.

I didn't know that the Gunmen lived in Takoma Park...I was born there! SOOOO cool!

Well, it's at least fanon that they work there. Takoma seemed really cute, from what I saw of it.

I have to say, the nice thing about living in New York is that, even if you start getting blase about living in the capital of the universe, every so often you look up as you're walking down the street and see the Empire State Building, and think, fuck yeah. :)

You know, I've been watching a ton of WW lately, but it didn't even pop into my mind...I think in part because the universe of WW is very internal to the White House and Capitol, and I wasn't anywhere near those bits of the city. Have fun on your trip! The CVS near where I was staying was selling maps of the city with Obama on them...

Loved this post.

I went to DC for the first time a few years ago for a meeting with a funder. The first day of meetings, I kept staring out the conference room windows at the Hoover Building, almost unable to conceptualize that it was all real, that this was the land that some of my favorite characters inhabited.

I was like that the first time I worked at the UN. Someone said they had to run across the street for a meeting, and I said, "What's across the street?" "Headquarters," they said, pointing. I did a little o_O thing for a while.

how lovely! I felt that way about my first European trip too.

The first time I went to DC, I was a very young teenager and I went with my father. This was when the show was still on and at the height of its popularity. I desperately wanted to go on a tour at the Hoover Building, but when we got there, the security guards informed us that the building was closed to visitors today. Talk about disappointment. So we went to the Hard Rock which was near by to eat. When we passed the building after lunch, the security guard called me over, and gave me an imitation FBI badge since he knew I was so disappointed. It made my day :)

That's a totally cute story! Yay for the security guard. :)

"Everywhere I went, I thought, Mulder and Scully live here. Even though they don't."

But they *do* to us.

When I get lonely down here in DC, I think of them driving down Connecticut Avenue and chasing monsters by the monuments. It makes my life down here that much better.

I think I would do the same if I ever moved there. Well, I hope I'd be able to turn it down a little after the first few weeks or so. :)
