[Facilier comes on screen looking slightly amused. In spite of his words, though, there's something unusual about his expression, to those who know him - something a little less smug, but not the rage that usually replaces the smugness, either. It's almost genuinely thoughtful.

He's also wearing this, without a hint of self-consciousness.]I was ( Read more... )

Don't mention that house.

I thought you weren't talkin' to me.

I hated it probably as much as you did.

I feel like you ask me that every time I do talk to you.

I don't remember most of it. Just one part.

Well, naturally I'm testin' whether your memory is as poor as mine is. ...that's a joke.

It's mainly the folks who died who forgot, isn't it? Hm. Care to share?

It sounds like you've got some stories I haven't heard. Care to share? [ Yeah, she's still sort of considering quitting :| ]

Ah, that's right, you weren't around for either of them were you?

I'll start with my favorite. We pull in port with invitations to some rich fool's birthday party. Inmates have to pretend to be someone else. What we learn, real quick, is that the house the party's at is alive and wants us dead. Our wardens are locked in the basement. Which is haunted.

We start to get voices over the communicators. Wardens being tortured. Or slowly drowned. We all wander around looking and playing rescuers. There's prayers to several gods. Gets downright touching at some parts.

Once I found Iroh, our job was to find his item and use it to open a door and get out. Whole time after I reach him, there's things taunting me. Trying to get me to leave without him. I don't know if he saw them, or something else, but I've never see the man be anything but dead calm 'til that night.

Some folks forgot parts of it - mainly the ones who got a death toll. I didn't, though.

[ That's horrible. Her response is deadly, seriously quiet. She knows a thing or two about being tortured. ]

The Admiral. Did he have anything to do with it.

Truth be told, I don't know.

We got clues over the journals. But images of the ghosts, too, some kind of interference. It seemed too pretty to be a coincidence - we find our Warden, we find his item, everyone bonds and tests whether they're the type that gives a damn.

If he's sorry it happened, he sure as hell didn't say anything.

I missed the zombies, but I remember the haunted house pretty clearly. It wasn't exactly in the brochure.

I'd imagined not.

Compared to the house, the zombies...well, I know a lot of folks around here who can fight, and I know that death isn't permanent. It's different. But still not what y'all sign up for.

I think I'm glad I missed that one. From the way you're talking, it was even hairier than the ghost one, and the ghost one was... pretty bad.

Why do y'all stick around, with all this mess bein' thrown at you?

Who's to blame for what? The blog mob or the greater situation?

That wig wears you well.

I don't know what a 'blog' is, but I'm gonna guess both.

Heh, well thank you. No reason I can't look snazzy while makin' a point.

Blog - a means by which one may pat oneself on the arse by demanding that other people take action. See also: a device for garnering cheap sympathy.

They're all the rage on 21st-century Earth.

So, whose fault do you think it is? Or do I have to answer first?

[And he so agrees about the looking snazzy. Snazz is very important.]

More things change, more they stay the same, huh?

Oh, I thought I made it pretty clear with the wardrobe. But if you've got other ideas...

I'm starting to wonder if there's reason to think... everyone's got reason to get out of here, don't we?

you also have to ask yourself why they do hang around, though. That answer might be as unpleasant as the answer to the question you're asking.

What I told that one warden's the truth. Digs are better here than back home most days. But there's some of us who'd rather be dead, I know. And whenever we pull into port...

That's a fine question. We've seen enough Wardens leave to know they can. Sometimes whether they want to or not.

I'd certainly like to know exactly what they're hanging around here. Because we don't have a choice.

Might be one worth asking, at some point.
