The tentative art meeting today never materialized; I was left with far more "free" time after school than I'd intended or wanted, a situation exacerbated by my mother's lateness. Expecting her arrival any time, I waited outside - it was warm and relatively peaceful ( Read more... )

I'm sorry Emily. If it hadn't been for wisdom teeth and their evolutionary disadvantage, I would have been waiting with you. I want to meet your freshman friend.

Oh, I don't blame you. ^^ Wisdom teeth are no fun at all - though ice cream is. ^_^

Honestly? I'm... not at all sure I'd recognize him again. ^^;

Ice cream is yummy, chocolate being the best.

I think perhaps it is our responsibility as juniors to bond with the underclassmen and make them feel welcome especially the ones who specifically approach us. Except of course those sophmores who invaded my table in the library.

Oh, but of course - I'd take ice cream over marriage to x (wealthy) (attractive) man and 2.5 kids any day. Guess that makes me an unvirtuous person with no conception of real happiness, doesn't it? :D

*nod* I don't mind talking to those underclassmen who are polite and not table-encroaching, and this one was; I'm just not confident I'd recognize him. I don't have the best memory for faces when I've only seen their owners once and that for ten minutes. ^^;

I left just a bit after three, actually, and my mum was certainly en route by then, but the offer's very kind. ^^

Oh, yeah, I know - you'd think the fact that I'm over, say, 4'10" would give it away. :D

I swear freshmen are getting shorter each year. Must be something in the water

Dumber, too. A whole group thought that I was Bruce Wayne.

Such generalizations are discriminatory, mean, and unfair. All freshman are not stupid nor are all the sophmores even more stupid and immature. We're really not that different from them. Two years is no big deal.

I don't think all the freshmen are stupid... some of them are, I'm sure, but then we've quite a few stupid juniors too; we're just lucky enough to be able to largely avoid them. This one, in any case, was not stupid, and I thought the guess that I was a freshman because I'd been outside alone for quite some time was interesting, thought-provoking at the very least. I did spend quite a bit of out-of-class time alone, for the first couple of weeks of freshman year at least, and being reminded what that was like was probably pretty good for me - because I'm very rarely alone, because sometimes I take having absolutely wonderful friends for granted, although I really shouldn't.

It occurred to me, too, that he might have thought so because he was alone due to not knowing anyone - and I totally know what that's like. If he was alone for the same reason I was, or for whatever other reason, and he thought that I might be lonely, starting a conversation was a pretty nice gesture.
